What Acupuncturing is and is not
Acupuncturing.com ("Acupuncturing") provides:
- A directory of licensed acupuncturists, with verification of state or provincial licensure at the time of listing and at annual re-verification
- Educational information about acupuncture, including condition pages, learn pages, blog posts, and frequently asked questions
Acupuncturing does not provide:
- Medical care, diagnosis, treatment, or advice
- A doctor-patient or practitioner-patient relationship
- Personalized health recommendations
- An endorsement of any specific practitioner, treatment, or course of care
- A substitute for professional medical evaluation
Information is general — not personalized
The information published on the Service — including discussion of conditions, treatments, expected outcomes, and the state of research — is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. It is intended to help readers understand the field broadly. It is not a substitute for an individualized assessment by a qualified healthcare professional who knows you, your medical history, and your specific circumstances.
Different patients respond to the same treatment in different ways. Information on the Service describes general patterns and ranges; it does not predict what will happen for you specifically.
Always consult a qualified healthcare provider
Before starting acupuncture or any new health practice, and particularly before stopping or modifying existing care, talk to your physician or other qualified healthcare provider — especially if you:
- Have a serious or chronic medical condition
- Take prescribed medications, including blood thinners
- Are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Have a bleeding disorder or compromised immune function
- Have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device (relevant for electroacupuncture)
- Have any concerns about whether acupuncture is appropriate for you
Acupuncture is generally safe when delivered by a properly trained and licensed practitioner using sterile, single-use needles. But like any health intervention, it carries some risk and is not appropriate for every person or every condition.
About research and evidence claims
When the Service describes the research evidence for acupuncture (for example, on condition pages or in the learn section), we attempt to summarize the published literature accurately and neutrally, including limitations and uncertainties. The summaries are written by editors with input from licensed practitioners but are not peer-reviewed and may not capture every nuance of any specific study or systematic review.
Where research findings are described, we draw primarily on:
- Cochrane Library systematic reviews
- National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) summaries
- Major clinical society guidelines
- Peer-reviewed publications
For health decisions, evidence summaries on this Service should be a starting point for further investigation, not a basis for action without professional consultation.
About practitioner listings
Inclusion of a practitioner in the Acupuncturing directory means that, at the time of listing and at annual re-verification:
- The practitioner held an active state or provincial license to practice acupuncture in the listed jurisdiction
- The practitioner provided the listed information
Inclusion does not mean:
- Acupuncturing endorses the practitioner's clinical judgment, technique, or fitness for any specific patient or condition
- The practitioner is the right fit for your particular needs
- The practitioner's license is currently active (license status can change between verification cycles — confirm with the relevant licensing board if it matters)
- The practitioner has consented to provide care in any specific case
You are responsible for evaluating any practitioner before engaging them, and for verifying current licensure if that's important to you.
Patient testimonials and reviews
Patient testimonials, reviews, or case descriptions on the Service describe one person's experience and are not predictive of your experience. Individual response to acupuncture varies significantly. Acupuncturing makes reasonable efforts to verify that reviews are submitted by actual patients, but cannot independently confirm clinical claims made within reviews.
Emergencies
The Service is not intended for medical emergencies. If you are experiencing a medical emergency:
- Call 911 (United States, Canada) or your local emergency number
- Call or text 988 if you are in the United States and experiencing a mental health crisis or thoughts of self-harm
- Go to the nearest emergency room if you cannot reach emergency services
Do not delay seeking emergency medical care to consult information on this Service or to contact a practitioner listed here.
No claim of cure
Acupuncturing does not claim that acupuncture cures any disease. Practitioners listed on the Service are not authorized to make claims of cure for serious conditions through their listing. If you encounter a listing that includes such claims, please report it to concerns@acupuncturing.com.
Limitation of liability
Acupuncturing makes no warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or appropriateness of any information on the Service for any particular purpose. We will not be liable for any damages arising from your use of the Service, your use of information found on the Service, or your engagement with any practitioner listed on the Service. See our Terms of Service for the full limitation of liability.
Acceptance
By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Medical Disclaimer and agree to it. If you do not agree, do not use the Service for healthcare-related decisions.
